Pike Nurseries’ Ladybug Weekend returns April 26 – 28
Local garden center celebrates beneficial bugs with free class and ladybug giveaways
ATLANTA (April 17, 2024) – Spring is here, and experienced gardeners and green thumbs alike are getting their gardens ready for the warmer weather! However, the warmth also signals the return of harmful insects and pests. Aphids, mites and mealybugs may wreak havoc on gardens, but the pesticides that keep them at bay can be equally damaging to the fragile garden ecosystem. Enter ladybugs: a gardener’s unexpected ally! Ladybugs are voracious predators of aphids and other pests, making them a safe and eco-friendly way to promote a healthy garden environment. Because of their association with bountiful, thriving crops, they are even regarded as lucky in many cultures.
To help jumpstart gardens — and maybe offer a boost of good luck — Pike Nurseries will give away over four million friendly ladybugs this month as a part of its annual Ladybug Weekend! From Friday, April 26 through Sunday, April 28, customers at all Pike Nurseries locations will receive one 150-count packet of ladybugs with any purchase (one per family, while supplies last).
Green thumbs can also unlock the secrets of a thriving plant ecosystem during the garden center’s “Beneficial Bugs'' class at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 at most stores. During this complimentary class, the pros at Pike Nurseries will discuss beneficial insects such as ladybugs, bees and praying mantises and how they play a crucial role in gardens by helping control pests, pollinate plants and contribute to overall biodiversity. The class will also cover tips on how to attract, identify and nurture these helpful creatures.
